Langstane Housing Association
Marley Eternit’s Cedral weatherboard has been utilised in a new landmark housing development in Aberdeen that aims to provide much needed affordable housing.
Langstane Housing Association manages over 2,700 properties throughout Aberdeenshire and Moray and put plans in place to progress its first development to include Mid Market Rent (MMR) properties. The development adds 32 spacious and well-appointed 2-bed homes to its housing stock, 14 of which are MMR.
MMR is aimed at providing people on modest incomes with an opportunity to access rented accommodation at an affordable level. This is particularly important in Aberdeen where private rented accommodation is amongst the most expensive in Scotland.
Langstane Housing Association worked with William Lippe Architects to produce a design for the new properties that was both aesthetically pleasing and simple to maintain.
Wm Lippe Architects recommended the use of Marley Eternit’s Cedral Click range. Cedral is an external fibre cement weatherboard cladding material that offers housebuilders the flexibility to implement a unique and modern design with a life expectancy of at least 50 years, making it an attractive and durable alternative to timber and PVCu cladding.
Offering a visually striking timber aesthetic effect, this highly attractive and low maintenance solution comes in a wide range of colours and is simple to install to save housebuilders time and money.
In addition to Cedral weatherboard, Wm Lippe Architects also recommended the use of Marley Eternit’s Modern roof tile range in colour Anthracite. The innovative interlocking design provides a flat, smooth slate-like tile appearance that is enhanced by a broken bond-laying pattern.
The result is a housing development that keeps up with the latest aesthetic designs and trends, whilst requiring very little upkeep, ensuring the visual appeal of the properties is long lasting.
Marcie Ballance, Director of Asset Management at Langstane Housing Association, said: “The new housing development at Castleton Lane includes our first Mid Market Rent provision and it gives us great pleasure to assist working households through this tenure.
“By working closely with Wm Lippe Architects and utilising Marley Eternit’s innovative Cedral weatherboard and Modern roof tile range, our residents can reap the benefits of modern and comfortable surroundings that are built to last.”
