Farmscape sheeting is the right choice for cattle building
When Robert Greaves of Amerton Grange Farm in Staffordshire required additional accommodation for his cattle, he consulted established agricultural frame manufacturer, MJ Barrett Constructions.
The company drew up plans for a 1,800m2 shed using materials that would provide the best environment for Robert’s livestock.
MJ Barrett recommended Marley Eternit fibre cement sheeting because of its ability to address condensation issues and reduce distress to livestock caused by reverberation from wind and rain. The roof at Amerton Grange was also designed with a ventilating cranked crown ridge piece to improve ventilation and allow stale, moisture-laden air to escape.
Fibre cement sheeting is particularly effective on buildings that house livestock as the density of the fibre cement material tackles reverberation often found with steel sheets. Also, its ability to absorb up 25% of its dry weight in moisture (and then dissipate it in more favourable conditions) reduces condensation issues.
Brian Richardson of MJ Barrett Constructions explains: “We often suggest clients look at the benefits of fibre cement profiled sheeting for this type of building because of its ability to address condensation. Marley Eternit is our supplier of choice for fibre cement profiled sheeting because we know that its products are high quality and British-made.”
Anthracite (grey) was specified for the building at Amerton Grange Farm because it met with the approval of local planners – the Farmscape range is designed to reduce the visual impact of buildings on the landscape by giving them a natural look from new. It also does not contain any metallic components making it resistant to corrosion, with a subsequent installed life of at least 50 years.
Farmer Robert Greaves said: “I was happy to accept the recommendation of MJ Barrett Constructions about the best material for the roof, and the fact that fibre cement profiled sheeting lasts for so long was an important consideration. I am delighted that the design also provides high levels of ventilation.”
Marley Eternit is the only UK manufacturer of fibre cement profiled sheeting. British made for British farmers, our wide range of products and ventilation systems are better for animal health and welfare, providing excellent noise and thermal insulation, reduced condensation and resistance to even the most extreme weather conditions.
