There are exciting developments going on at our long established and thriving Beenham site, which is based less than ten miles from the vibrant city of Reading.

The site has been constantly developing to meet the needs of the growing market not only in product innovations but the physical infrastructure and technology to stay at the forefront of manufacturing practices. Our current improvement programme includes a highly structured implementation of 5S, advanced problem solving techniques and an overarching Kaizen approach to our operations.

More than 80 people work at Beenham and the success of the site is down to the excellent work of the team in often very demanding environments, supported by our small but strong leadership team.

  • We have five different manufacturing lines covering most of the Marley Eternit concrete roof tiles, fittings and accessories.
  • Our operation is made up of many different departments: production, mechanical, electrical, logistics, quality, EHS, mobile fleet and a dedicated continuous improvement manager. We draw from many different industries and employ team members with qualifications from A levels to PhDs.

Health and Safety Administrator - Fixed Term Contract x 12 months

Closing Date: 08.11.2017

Job Profile: The role of the H&S Administrator will provide administrative and clerical functions in relation to the day to day running of the central Health and Safety department. This role requires a strong administrator, ideally with experience and/or qualifications from within the H&S environment. However the key skills here are to work in support of the H&S function using strong administration, project and organisational skills.

Key Responsibilities:

To receive, acknowledge, investigate and process claims within the required timelines.

Arrange mandatory and tailored health and safety training for staff

Carry out monthly inspections for first aid provision, replenishing stock as required.

Assist with the reporting of accidents, near misses and dangerous occurrences, chasing corrective actions and making improvement suggestions

assist with the emergency response exercises and drills and maintain records

Organise the first aid and fire safety team meetings

Arrange the health and safety committee meetings and monthly H&S meetings, issuing the agenda, taking and distributing minutes and tracking any actions

Assist with employee and contractor health and safety inductions

Support the Health and Safety Officer with the implementation and review of company policies, templates and safety information

Help promote a positive health and safety culture, leading by example by demonstrating and endorsing safe working practices

Assist in researching new health and safety products, suppliers and providers

Nature and Scope

Knowledge and experience within a Health and Safety environment with a strong, proven background within a similar administrative support position is desirable.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to build and maintain working relationships.

Proactive and motivated with a talent to investigate, resolve and/or escalate issues and requirements.

Strong IT skills including MS word, excel and Power Point and an ability to quickly learn SAP and web based systems.

The H&S Administrator will be conscientious and meticulous in their approach to performing daily records and duties.

Will be keen to learn and will benefit from training to acquire the specific technical knowledge required for the role. Comply with company health and safety policy and play an active role in ensuring the welfare of others.

Qualifications: IOSH Certificated advantageous. NVQ Level 2 Business Administration or equivalent. First aider and fire marshal experience would be helpful

The company reserves the right to make changes and update the job description in consultation with the job holder. Full-time 36.5 hours per week, regular working days Monday to Friday. The role is offered as 1 year fixed term contract initially, covering a period of maternity leave within this small team.

Company Health and Safety Manager

JOB PROFILE:The role is responsible for the operation and upkeep of ISO 18001 management system and managing the process around ensuring company compliance with legislation, corporate policies and procedures, implementing improvements as required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: To manage and lead a team of Health and Safety direct reports.To ensure that Health and Safety legislation is reviewed and implemented where relevant to the business.To ensure the investigation of circumstances and causes of all significant health and safety incidents, reportable accidents, dangerous occurrences and major property damage through the site safety managers.To ensure that processes and activities are implemented that identify and quantify existing and all potential new hazards at work, and put in place measures to eliminate or reduce the risk and therefore afford protection from hazards identified.To be involved with all relevant personnel in claims investigation by insurers or solicitors in order to achieve control of payments.To manage corporate and site external and internal health and safety audit processes via Site Safety Managers and EHSQ Officers, ensure that plant, processes, procedures, practices and premises are inspected and necessary Health and Safety standards maintained or additional measures implemented as required.

To liaise with managers either directly or via EHSQ Officers, and be a contact point with outside authorities on Health and Safety matters.Ensure that issues are brought to the attention, either directly or via EHSQ Officers, of Safety Development Groups and managers in whose areas of responsibility it has relevance for action.Take responsibility for the implementation of RIDDOR and for the specification, collection and presentation of other statistics, designed to support Health and Safety activities.Supply senior managers within the company with Health and Safety statistics and reports as and when required.Attend Health and Safety related site and corporate meetings as required and provide information on matters within the job holders control, and as necessary for the group to effectively transact business.

Co-operate and consult regularly with other Etex UK business and exchange information, ideas and details of any Health and Safety issues that could affect them.Understand the duties and responsibilities of employees within sphere of responsibility.Work with the Operations Director to develop a continuous improvement culture which is aligned to lean principles, and the Company’s business objectives.Ensure a pro-active ‘gold standard’ approach to own health and safety and that of all employees, at all times.Continuously seek to add value, improve efficiency, and reduce wastage through applying lean principles, wherever applicable.Any other duties that are considered to be within the capability of the job holder that may be required from time to time.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: Professional qualification or equivalent commensurate experience. Member of NEBOSH diploma in occupational safety and health and preferably member of Chartered Institute of Occupational Safety and Health.Understanding ofISO 18001s, and associated company procedures.Experience of managing and motivating teams.Excellent communication skills.Good analytical skills, with a structured and methodical approach.Highly organised with ability to multitask and meet deadlines whilst maintaining meticulous attention to detail.A highly motivated, self-starter who is flexible and adaptable, and a good team player.Based at Burton, this role involves travel UK wide.The role also involves European travel.
