Economical yet environmentally friendly, Marley Eternit’s fibre cement slates offer specifiers a realistic alternative to natural slates.
As the only fibre cement slates which can achieve an A+ rating in the Building Research Establishments (BRE) Green guide*, Marley Eternit’s fibre cement roofing slates are an ideal choice when specifying for a building which must attain high green credentials. The product achieves this in part due to the manufacturing process, but also because the product is manufactured in the UK– something which cannot be claimed of equivalent alternatives – and so carbon footprint is reduced.
It is not only the environmental benefits that make Marley Eternit’s fibre cement slates an attractive option for those specifying roof products. They have been designed with the architect in mind and so offer the opportunity to produce innovative and imaginative designs on roof pitches down to 20°.

Our UK manufactured fibre cement slates offer a viable alternative to natural slate tiles. Slate tiles drawn from natural sources do so at the expense of a dwindling natural resource, with a low percentage of mined natural slate used a finished roofing material. Our manmade fibre cement slates provide a high quality product that is manufactured in the UK to a consistent quality and dimensional tolerances making it a cost effective alternative. This is not only ideal for refurbishment projects, but also for new build developments, where the look of heritage traditionally associated with slate is sought.
Made from a fully compressed fibre cement base sheet and protected by an acrylic coating, the fibre cement slate material can boast many qualities that make it the right aesthetic and environmental choice. It is light in weight, safe, strong and easy to work, and offers a true, low maintenance and durable solution for slate roofing designs.
Modern technology allows a faithful representation of natural slate colours, textures, and edge details which are supported by design flexibility, weather-resistance, proven performance and speed of installation.
Our fibre cement slates are complemented by a wide range of ridges, double blanks for details at verges, hips and valleys, together with fixings and accessories for all roofing applications:
Our comprehensive range includes:

Our fibre cement is manufactured in the UK by combining cellulose, reinforcing fibres and cement with water. The slurry this creates is fed into a machine known as a 'Hatschek' machine a cylindrical sieve rotating through the slurry. The solids are deposited on the sieve which on each rotation attracts a layer of the solids and transfers the layer onto a continuous belt. The layers are built up to the desired thickness and then removed and then compressed.
The benefits of fibre cement include:
• A+ rated decorative cladding, roof slate and profiled sheeting solutions
• Made using natural and renewable raw materials
• Clean, low energy production process, with low environmental impact
• On average more than 35% less embodied carbon compared to alternative building materials
• Marley Eternit fibre cement products are classified as Class A2s1d0 to EN 13501-1 reaction to fire.
• Classified as category B for both hard and soft body impacts to BS8200
• Fibre cement does not rust, rot or corrode
• Lifetime experience provides a material life expectancy in excess of 50 years
