90,000 Marley Eternit Acme single camber clay plain tiles in red smooth were used to re-roof a block of flats at developments on Burleigh Court, Stretford.
Initially Trafford Housing Trust considered replacing the original clay roof with concrete tiles due to perceived cost implications however, once they realised that Marley Eternit’s clay plain tiles could be specified for a similar cost to concrete, they decided to replace clay with clay thus retaining the traditional aesthetics of the properties.
Marley Eternit’s wide range of clay plain tiles meant it was easy for Trafford Housing Trust to specify a colour and finish sympathetic to their requirements, with 24 colours in the range and the choice of single and double camber. The Acme single camber red smooth clay plain tiles chosen on the Trafford development has proved to be a popular choice in the North West as inner city properties take influence from and look to maintain the traditional appearance of Victorian properties in the surrounding suburbs.
Frank Lee, senior surveyor at Trafford Housing Trust comments:
“Trafford Housing Trust specified Marley Eternit’s Acme single camber clay tiles in red smooth as we wanted a tile that looked good and matched the tiles used on the surrounding properties but remained within budget.
“As part of the Government’s Decent Homes programme we have been renovating our properties to ensure they are up to standard and provide our residents with further improved comfortable homes. The new roofs have reinvigorated the homes and we have received many positive comments from both residents and the general public.”
Diana Bullock, campaign manager at Marley Eternit, adds:
“We have a longstanding relationship with Trafford Housing Trust and were really pleased that they used our clay plain tiles as part of their refurbishment programme. We have seen a real trend towards customers choosing to replace clay with clay in order to maintain the authentic appearance of their properties.”
“Advances in our clay technology means we can offer the largest range of affordable clay plain tiles in the UK, along with excellent environmental credentials, making them a real option for any roofing project.”
