Marley Eternit Reduces Clay Plain Tile Minimum Pitch

The leading roofing manufacturer carried out rigorous wind driven rain testing on its Acme single camber and Hawkins clay plain tiles and the results proved that the existing products could be used at minimum pitches as low as 30 degrees, which is a full 5 degrees lower than previously recommended.

John Dodd, technical manager at Marley Eternit, commented: “In the past, specifiers may have been reluctant to select our clay plain tiles for some of their roof designs, as they could only be used for pitches of 35 degrees and above.

“We have tested both of our Acme single camber and Hawkins clay plain tiles in accordance with the new European draft standard prEN 15601*, which determines the resistance of roof tiles and slates used in Western Europe to wind-driven rain, and found the tiles performed extremely well at 30 degrees.”

Marley Eternit’s investment has also lead to the implementation of LEAN manufacturing methods meaning production is streamlined and costs reduced, enabling the company to offer the most affordable range of clay plain tiles in the UK.

Environmental considerations are also increasingly important and using Marley Eternit’s clay plain tiles can achieve an A+ rating from the Building Research Establishment’s ‘Green Guide to Specification’.
