Recycling Plant Chooses Marley Eternit Profile 6

The state-of-the-art recycling and composting facility in Wrexham is the result of a partnership between WRG and Wrexham County Borough Council. The new plant will allow the county's waste to be managed for the next 25 years.

Due to the high temperatures and humidity created during the composting process, it was vital to select a roofing and cladding material that could cope with this aggressive environment.

The building designers therefore decided to specify Marley Eternit’s Profile 6 sheeting, which has been used on many other waste management plants and agricultural buildings around the UK. This is because the fibre cement used to manufacture the Profile 6 sheets is unaffected by the harsh environments found in these types of plants.

Marley Eternit’s Profile 6 sheets cannot rust as the fibre cement has no metallic content and is unaffected by frost and climatic temperature changes.

Whilst Profile 6 sheets are watertight, they are also vapour permeable, which proved to be a huge benefit for WRG as it significantly reduces condensation occurrence caused when the warm moist air generated by the composting process meets the relatively cooler building envelope. This condensation, which can be slightly acidic as a result of the gases given off during composting, can have a severe corrosive effect on the building. Profile 6 sheeting’s ability to reduce the level of condensation can therefore help protect the building.

Marley Eternit’s 1525mm sheet length was used on the Wrexham plant for ease of handling. The sheets are available in a range of colours to complement most urban and agricultural landscapes, with a natural grey colour option chosen for the Wrexham plant.

Profile 6 sheeting has achieved British Board of Agreement Certificate 00/3700 and can be used on roof pitches as low as 5º. It can be used for roofing and vertical cladding in both single skin and insulated constructions. Profile 6 sheeting is available with a full range of accessories.

Diana Bullock, Campaign Manager - Cladding & Profiled Sheeting at Marley Eternit, explained: “Profile 6 is ideal for industrial and agricultural buildings where a cost effective and high performance roofing and cladding material is required. We are delighted that it provided a solution on the Wrexham plant.”

The material has a 50-year life expectancy and is maintenance free, meaning that once it is installed, clients have the peace of mind that the material will perform consistently over a long period of time.
