Profile 6 Creates 'Awe-Some' New Hostel

The hostel, located in the small village of Ford, features 16 en-suite bedrooms, two common rooms and two bathrooms. Each bedroom has stunning views across the 25 mile long loch.

The building was constructed and designed by Candleberry Ltd and is clad in Redwood timber to enable it to blend in serenely with the woodland surroundings. Following feedback from the Argyll and Bute District Council, a Slate Blue finish was specified for the Profile 6 sheeting to ensure the building sat quietly in the unspoilt landscape.

The large, 1300 square metre roof was a key reason why the owner of the hostel specified Profile 6. This is because the sheets allow large expanses to be covered in a relatively short time-span. Marley Eternit’s new easy-to-handle 1525mm size sheets, which were used on the hostel, also ensured it was completed safely, all within a few days.

Fibre cement Profile 6 sheets have a 50-year life expectancy and are maintenance free, meaning that once it is installed, clients have the peace of mind that the material will perform consistently over a long period of time. This longevity has resulted in them being used extensively within the leisure sector.

Joachim Brolly, who is primarily a farmer but who wanted to expand his business operations by opening a hostel on his land, said: “I have used Marley Eternit’s Profile 6 sheeting for two other buildings and it has proved to be a huge success. They are cost-effective, maintenance-free and corrosion resistant, which should help the new hostel withstand the unpredictable local weather conditions.”

Profile 6 sheets are available in a range of colours and bespoke sizes along with a full range of accessories.

Diana Bullock, Campaign Manager at Marley Eternit, explained: “Profile 6 sheeting is a high performance roofing material, which makes it suitable for use on a wide variety of projects. The combination of Profile 6 in Slate Grey colour and natural timber cladding has demonstrated this by creating a stunning new building on the side of Loch Awe.”

Profile 6 sheeting has achieved British Board of Agrément Certificate 00/3700 and can be used on roof pitches as low as 5º. It can be used for roofing and vertical cladding in both single skin and insulated constructions.
