Marley Eternit’s Natura panels, which are low maintenance and Class 0 resistant to fire, were used in a planking effect of varying depths on the curved façade and on a battered wall at New Brompton College, formerly Upbury Arts College, in Gillingham.
Artlab won a Medway Design Award in 2006 for the project using Anthracite Natura on first-floor elements around corners and on projecting features. It was surface fixed by sub contractors Coombs Ltd using colour-matched rivets and screws and complements buff coloured stock brickwork and coloured aluminium frames to the glazing.
“Marley Eternit’s range of products was all approved by Medway Council,” said Artlab’s Simon Timms. “The cladding assisted in creating a modern, contemporary design that emitted a sense of accessibility, movement and inclusion, yet within a secure and safe teaching environment.”
