Rivendale slates provide perfect finish for Cotswold care centre

NHS Chipping Norton

A state of the art 50 bed care home and adjoining Primary Care Trust hospital in Chipping Norton has used over 2,500m2 of Rivendale fibre cement slates from Marley Eternit. The fibre cement slates give the roof a striking modern finish which is still in keeping with the authentic stone look traditionally seen in the Cotswolds.

The development, commissioned by Bedfordshire Pilgrims Housing Association (bpha) and delivered by specialist design and build contractor Castleoak, combines a modern care centre with an impressive Primary Care facility, comprising consulting rooms, x-ray facilities and office as well as a state of the art maternity unit.

Kevin Trow, head of construction at Castleoak, comments: “This is our ninth Oxfordshire care development, so from previous experience we know that fibre cement gives the really impressive, quality finish that bpha was looking for within the budgetary and planning constraints. The Rivendale fibre cement slates from Marley Eternit fulfilled stringent specification guidelines of a product that would be in keeping with the aesthetic surroundings of the local area.”

Mark Watson, area sales manager from Marley Eternit, adds: “The blue/black colour of the Rivendale fibre cement slate and the fact that it closely resembles natural slate, have made it a very popular choice for healthcare developments such as this one. It gives a modern striking finish that complements the surroundings, adding to the overall aesthetic appeal of the roof.”

David Keeling, the Executive Director at bpha who oversees the development of new properties, said: “We wanted to make sure that the new facility was both functional and visually appealing for our residents, and that it reflected the high standards our residents have come to expect. I am happy to say that this development has lived up to our expectations.”

The Rivendale fibre cement slate also benefits from being a strong and highly durable product while also being lightweight. In addition, all Marley Eternit fibre cement slates can achieve an A+ rating, the lowest environmental impact in the Building Research Establishment’s Green Guide to Specification.
