Marley Eternit is demonstrating its commitment to the roofing industry by supplying the South Coast Roof Training Centre in Littlehampton, West Sussex, with an array of materials to help its students with their studies, including product samples and current literature.
The centre, which opened in 2006, is staffed by tutors, Yusof Abdullah and Peter Cullingham and provides new roofers with the skills and qualifications needed for their chosen career. For experienced roofers, the centre offers refresher or ‘top-up’ courses so they can learn new skills.
When the centre first opened, owner and director, Mike Fildes, contacted several leading manufacturers to ask for their help and support but found that Marley Eternit was by far, the most committed to help. He says:
“It was an ambitious project to set up the training centre. Previously I had run training sessions for people who worked for my own company and it had proved to be a huge success. When I decided to expand and open a full training centre, I contacted a number of roofing manufacturers to ask for their help and support. Marley Eternit was keen to get involved from day one and has continued to do so by providing new information and materials every quarter”.
The help given by Marley Eternit to the South Coast Roof Training Centre is part of the company’s ongoing commitment to the development of skills in the industry. Trevor Hart, Regional Sales Manager at Marley Eternit says:
“At Marley Eternit, we appreciate the importance of good quality training in order to ensure that roofing does not become a dying skill, which is why we were keen to assist the training centre. Additionally, we also understand the importance of making sure that the more experienced roofers are given the opportunity to develop skills on our new, innovative products which have been created through our extensive research and development.”
He continues:
“With the introduction of an increasing amount of health and safety legislation, on-site training is becoming much more difficult to instigate, which makes such training centres crucial to the future of roofing. Marley Eternit is pleased to be involved and put something back into the roofing industry.”
