Dry Fix Goes Down A Storm

Recent bad weather has thrust the issue of roof maintenance into the spotlight and Marley Eternit believes roofs that are fitted with dry-fix accessories, such as its own Universal range, are more secure.

The company is also urging homeowners to take better care of their roofs – or risk invalidating their insurance policies if anything does go wrong.

John Dodd, company environmental and technical manager, from Marley Eternit, said: “Dry fix accessories are not only quicker and easier to install and maintain, they are also more weathertight. Mortar can erode with time and tiles bedded with mortar are more likely to come loose when they are affected by strong winds.

“If someone fits an immobiliser to their car or installs a dead lock to their front door, they may be offered cheaper insurance premiums. Perhaps the same principle should apply for dry fix roofs, which are less likely to suffer from the sort of storm damage we have seen across the UK recently.”

“Everything about our Universal Roofing Accessories range is user-friendly – they are compatible with tiles and slates from all manufacturers and everything you need to fit our dry-fix accessories arrives in the same box. The Dry Verge range is weather resistant and provides an excellent, durable alternative to mortar.”

John Dodd said it was also vital to keep roofs in a fit state regardless of what fixing is used: “People tend not to pay any attention to their roof until something goes wrong with it, but it is vital to keep it in good condition. If a roof is not properly maintained then insurers are within their rights not to pay out if damage is caused by weather. If a roof is in a state of disrepair before the storms arrive, it could be decided that the damage would have occurred anyway.”
