Blackpool Coastal Housing needed to replace the existing clay plain tiles on the roofs of properties in the Claremont Road area of the town, with a similar product, coupled with a requirement to ensure that the refurbishment would retain the character of the dwellings and continued to blend in with the surrounding area.
Marley Eternit’s wide selection of clay plain tiles with 24 colours in the range and the choice of single and double camber meant Blackpool Coastal Housing could choose a product to complete the work without delay and having to compromise on the finish and quality.
31,880 Acme single camber clay plain tiles in the Century colour, proved to be the perfect match in addition to satisfying environmental guidelines. The unique Acme range of single camber machine-made clay plain tiles combines the benefits of advanced manufacturing techniques with the charm and warmth associated with traditional clay plain tiles.
Trevor Oliver, Project Manager at Blackpool Coastal Housing, said: “With our partnering contractor HT Forrest we have been refurbishing Blackpool Council properties across the town, as part of the Decent Homes programme, with a view to providing our residents with a better quality home to live in.
“Finding the correct roof tiles for the properties was a very important part of the successful refurbishment of the dwellings on Claremont Road.”
The tiles on the 10 refurbished properties were the original clay plain tiles and dated back to the 1920s.
“We needed a tile that would be sympathetic with the tradition of the area and not conflict with the adjoining private dwellings. Therefore it was crucial to find the right tile, whilst not compromising on quality,” added Mr Oliver.
“We were really pleased when Marley Eternit approached us with the Acme single camber clay tiles in Century as it met all our criteria - a tile that looked good, blended in with the surrounding properties and was of high quality. In addition, the low environmental impact of the tile meant that it ticked our sustainability box as well.
“The results have been really pleasing and the roofs have revitalised the homes and the area.”

“The results are spectacular and we have had very positive feedback from residents and the surrounding locality.”
