Marley Eternit Cladding Specified for 'World Class' Facility

The manufacturer’s through-colour Natura panels were installed by Leech’s of Garstang on the fascia and soffit for some overhang and fin wall detailing at the state-of-the-art Platt Bridge Community First in Wigan, Lancashire.

The project, built on the site of a 13,000m² mine works, follows the closure of two schools in the area and comprises a primary school for 300 pupils, nursery and children’s centre, library, and health and family support centres. It incorporates sustainable features such as rainwater harvesting, rooftop solar panels, low carbon emissions and high efficiency heating.

On officially opening the £13 million site, former Prime Minister Tony Blair said: “This is a world class facility, a symbol of how with the right creativity and imagination and vision you can effect change.”

Property consultants NPS North West worked in partnership with Wigan Metropolitan Borough Council and main contractor Conlon Construction to design, manage and construct a one-stop-shop that caters for the needs of families and children ranging from babies and toddlers up to and including Key Stage 2. Their solution was a steel framed building of 2,500m2 that was built on time and to budget.
