How is Profiled Sheeting installed?

Fibre cement profiled sheeting is a durable, cost effective and easy to install solution for roofs and vertical cladding. Most ranges are available in a choice of colours that harmonise with commonly used building materials.

Here is a step-by-step guide on fitting Profile 6 sheets:

Step 1

Fibre cement profiled sheeting can be fixed to all types of purlins including steel, timber and concrete.
Before sheeting work begins, the structure should be checked to ensure that all purlins and rails are in a true plane, correctly spaced and securely fixed.

Step 2

On this warm roof construction, the insulation is placed between the purlins and above the Vapour Control Layer.

Step 3

The first profiled sheet is now ready for fitting and should be positioned by two people (shorter 1525mm long sheets can be handled by one person as they weigh less than 25kg).

Step 4

The profiled sheet should then be fixed with two fasteners per sheet per purlin. Before fixing the first sheet, ensure that the correct eaves overhang is measured. It should be no larger than 350mm. The fasteners should be fixed at the bottom of the sheet first.  

Step 5

Subsequent profiled sheets should be mitred as shown to avoid four thicknesses of sheeting at the junctions of side and end laps. Two of the profiled sheets at each junction can be easily mitred using a saw and before the sheets are transported to the roof. The mitred joint is then covered top and bottom by the other two sheets. Most manufacturers’ literature includes a mitre plan. Marley Eternit can now supply pre-mitred sheets.

Step 6

At the apex of the roof, the ridge piece should then be fastened down, along with the top sheets, into the purlins using two fasteners per sheet per purlin.

Once all these steps have been carried out a durable, thermally efficient and low maintenance roof will havebeen created that will last for many decades and face up to all weather conditions.
