Wildlife

At our Keele plant we have our In The Countyside Stewardship Scheme with Natural England.

The aims of the Scheme are to:

  • Sustain the beauty and diversity of the landscape;
  • Improve and extend wildlife habitats;
  • Conserve archaeological sites and historic features;
  • Improve opportunities for countryside enjoyment;
  • Restore neglected land or features;
  • Create new wildlife habitats and landscape features.

Keele is also corporate members of the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust, and are actively involved in the protection of Great Crested Newts and Water Voles. Access has been granted onto surrounding land at Keele for the local school to undertake nature walks.

At Burton upon Trent we reclaimed a disused sand quarry to the rear of our site, and transformed the land into a fishing lake and local beauty spot, which is now frequented by members of the public for leisure activities such as dog walking, angling and bird watching.
